How does genuine mumijo form?
In remote high-altitude areas of the Himalayas, the Altai or the Caucasus, a natural treasure lies hidden within rugged mountain formations. During the warm summer months, a deep brown, resin-like substance seeps from rock layers, known as mumijo or shilajit. In its dried form it resembles amber; fresh mumijo is sticky, dark brown to black, and has an earthy, resinous scent. This natural resin forms over many centuries: plant residues are compressed, warmed and slowly transformed by microorganisms into a unique organic–mineral mass. Its characteristic black colour and earthy smell are markers of authentic mountain mumijo. At NatuGena we use only mumijo sourced from these traditional regions at altitudes between 1,000 and 5,000 metres, where natural formation conditions exist. Every batch undergoes strict verification to ensure that origin, colour and consistency match the characteristics of native mountain resin. This ensures the preservation of its natural purity.

What makes this “black gold” so special?
Mumijo has been valued in many cultures, including India and Tibet, for centuries. Its resin-like texture, deep colour and unique origin have earned it the name “black gold”. Fulvic and humic acids are its key components. They act as natural binding structures for the minerals and trace elements contained within, helping preserve the full natural nutrient spectrum. Fulvic acid is an organic acid formed during the microbial breakdown of plant materials in soils, sediments and peat environments. Mumijo also contains natural amino acids, small amounts of organic acids and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and zinc. Depending on the region and environmental conditions, it may additionally contain plant-derived compounds such as polyphenols, waxes, residual essential oils and other secondary plant substances originating from the original vegetation. These natural components influence the colour, scent and consistency of the substance.
