  • Organic chlorella powder: organically cultivated, natural and gently processed
  • Plant-based protein: chlorella consists of around 50–70% high-quality protein
  • Natural source: rich in valuable micronutrients such as vitamin B12, vitamin C, iron and magnesium
  • Chlorophyll: contains natural chlorophyll, which gives the alga its strong green colour
  • Sustainable quality: vegan and made in Germany
  • Made in Germany: exceptional purity and bioavailability for optimal nutrient uptake

Chlorella vulgaris is a microscopic alga that has existed for millions of years. These algae are found in freshwater, are among the oldest life forms on Earth, and impress with their high nutrient density. Chlorella naturally contains plant-based protein, vitamins, minerals and chlorophyll – the pigment that gives plants their green colour. This unique nutrient profile makes the chlorella alga an interesting superfood.

How is Organic-Chlorella processed?

NatuGena Bio-Chlorella contains 2,500 mg of chlorella per daily serving, divided into 5 tablets. Our organic chlorella is cultivated under strictly controlled conditions and processed particularly gently to preserve the nutrients and natural taste. The tablets contain only Chlorella vulgaris, with no artificial additives or additional ingredients. This ensures the product’s complete natural purity.

What nutrients are contained in Organic-Chlorella?

Chlorella provides valuable micronutrients such as vitamin B12, vitamin C, iron and magnesium. The alga is also rich in chlorophyll and other secondary plant compounds. Additionally, it consists of around 50–70% protein and is an excellent plant-based source of protein.

Does chlorella algae contain iodine? How much iodine does organic chlorella contain? Does it contain heavy metals?

Our products are regularly and carefully tested microbiologically, and checks are also carried out for possible contamination from residues, plasticizers, pesticides, and heavy metals. Chlorella is a freshwater algae and is cultivated in special organic fermenters. Thanks to the closed system, there is no contact with fish or seawater, and no heavy metals, microplastics, or other marine pollutants can enter our algae.
Unlike sea algae, chlorella contains hardly any iodine, as it is a freshwater algae. It is grown in precious metal or glass tube containers and does not come into contact with seawater. This means that you can also benefit from the healthy properties of chlorella algae if you have an overactive thyroid. Please allow at least 1 hour between taking this product and other supplements or medications. It is best to consume it at least 2 hours before or after a meal. See recommended intake.
Chlorella algae contains less than 70 micrograms of iodine per 100 grams.  One Chlorella tablet from NatuGena weighs 0.4g, so each tablet contains a very low 0.311µg of iodine. 5 tablets contain 1.55µg (a pack of 500 tablets weighs approx. 200g, which means you consume around 47 µg of iodine per month).

Why take chlorella with a high-fat meal?
High-fat meals promote the absorption of fat-soluble components from chlorella, such as carotenoids and vitamins (such as vitamin A (beta-carotene), K1, E, as well as lutein, zeaxanthin, and omega-3 fatty acids (ALA). Chlorella is absorbed more evenly in the intestine and can simultaneously bind harmful substances absorbed from food in the digestive tract (heavy metals from fish consumption). The recommended intake is a guideline and can be adjusted individually.

Why do the recommended intakes for organic chlorella and TriTox differ?
Organic chlorella can be consumed with a high-fat meal to optimise the availability of certain vitamins from the chlorella. In addition to chlorella, TriTox also contains the dietary fibre seaweed pectin and is used more specifically for binding in the intestine – therefore, it is recommended to take it at a greater distance from meals and other products.

FAQ

We work with the independent laboratory AgroLab, which we commission to perform microbiological and heavy metal tests.

In our microbiological testing, we measure the aerobic mesophilic plate count (total plate count), as well as the levels of Escherichia coli (E. coli), yeasts, Salmonella, molds, and staphylococci.

For heavy metals, we test for arsenic, lead, cadmium, and mercury in accordance with the limit values specified in Regulation (EU) 2023/915.

The optimal duration of use depends on the specific nutrient, your initial situation, diet, and individual requirements.

There is therefore no one-size-fits-all recommendation for how long a product should be taken. For products intended to support nutrient intake over a longer period, use over several weeks to months may be appropriate. In many cases, a period of around three months may be suitable before nutrient status and further requirements are reassessed.

In the case of diagnosed deficiencies, medical conditions, or the use of medication, the use of supplements should be individually discussed with a doctor or qualified healthcare professional.

The optimal time to take a supplement depends on the specific nutrient, individual tolerance, and the composition of the product. However, some ingredients can be particularly well suited to certain times of day or meals.

In the morning

Stimulating ingredients are often preferably taken in the morning or during the first half of the day. These include, for example:

  • Coenzyme Q10
  • Green tea extract
  • Certain B vitamins

Especially for sensitive individuals, it may be advisable to avoid taking stimulating ingredients immediately before bedtime.

Throughout the day

For some nutrients, it may be beneficial to divide the daily amount into several doses.

Water-soluble vitamins such as B vitamins and vitamin C can be taken throughout the day.

Magnesium can also be divided into several doses rather than taking the entire daily amount at once. This may improve tolerance, particularly with higher amounts.

In the evening

Depending on the type of magnesium compound, taking it in the evening may be beneficial. Magnesium glycinate, for example, is often preferably taken in the evening.

In general, however, the best time to take a product also depends on when it is individually best tolerated and can be reliably incorporated into your daily routine.

With a meal

Some nutrients benefit from being taken together with a meal.

Fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K can be taken together and ideally with a meal containing some fat.

Omega-3 fatty acids should also be taken regularly with a meal. Omega-3 oils can be combined well with fat-soluble vitamins.

Many plant-based ingredients can also be taken as part of a meal or together with omega-3 products. However, the optimal timing depends on the specific plant compound and product formulation.

Zinc can cause nausea or stomach discomfort on an empty stomach in some people. If you have a sensitive stomach, it is therefore advisable to take zinc with a meal.

Between meals

Iron is often taken separately from meals, as various foods and beverages can affect its absorption. It is particularly advisable to leave a gap between iron and:

  • Coffee and tea
  • Caffeinated beverages
  • Milk and dairy products
  • Calcium- or mineral-rich supplements

However, if you have a sensitive stomach, iron can also be taken with a meal. In this case, individual tolerance is more important than a theoretically optimal intake situation.

Enzyme supplements vary depending on their intended use: digestive enzymes are generally taken with meals. Products that are specifically intended to be taken between meals may, for example, be taken around 30 minutes before a meal. The product's specific recommended intake should always be followed.

Around exercise

Proteins and amino acids can be taken both before and after training.

If you exercise on an empty stomach, taking them around 30 minutes before training may be beneficial. If you have already eaten a protein-rich meal, you can also plan your protein intake for after training.

In general, ensuring sufficient protein intake throughout the entire day is more important than adhering to a narrow time window around your workout.
