Astaxanthin belongs to the group of carotenoids. These natural plant pigments are responsible for giving colors to vegetables and fruits. In particular, it belongs to the subclass of xanthophylls and is considered one of the strongest antioxidants.
Natural astaxanthin is produced in a specific biochemical process by photosynthetic algae, bacteria, and yeast. The astaxanthin used in the product is obtained from the natural green algae Haematococcus pluvialis. Compared to other raw materials such as yeast, green algae have by far the highest concentration of astaxanthin. In addition, the chemical structure of the active ingredient from the microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis differs significantly from the yeast variant. The astaxanthin from the microalgae is linked directly to fatty acids and exists as monoester and diester.
Molecularly, the "algae astaxanthin" has 40 carbon atoms and many conjugated double bonds. The result of this different chemical structure is a significantly higher bioavailability and a significantly better antioxidant potential in favor of the green algae form.
The product has been manufactured using the patented AstaFit® process, which was specially developed for use in dietary supplements.
The vegan astaxanthin AstaFit® capsules are 100% vegan and consist of oleoresin from the astaxanthin-rich microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis, vitamin E, and vitamin D. The microalgae production takes place under controlled conditions in closed indoor systems.
