The Reishi has been considered a symbol of long life in Far Eastern medicine for over 4000 years. The mushroom is also known under the names "Ling Zhi", Ganoderma lucidum and shiny lacquer mushroom. In China, the reishi has been used successfully for thousands of years to treat a variety of ailments as part of the mycotherapy developed there. Many scientific studies have dealt with the effect of the tree fungus in the past decades. Today, the mushroom is also becoming increasingly popular in European countries and is used preventively or therapeutically against numerous complaints. It can be taken acutely, as a one-time cure and also for long-term prevention and is suitable for all ages.

The unique micronutrient composition makes the mushroom a strong all-rounder and enables the Reishi to be used in a wide range of applications. It contains valuable beta-glucans (plant sterols), essential amino and fatty acids, monoterpenes, sterols, triterpenes as well as many B vitamins, vitamin E (tocopherol) and iron. 

An important triterpene of the Reishi is ganoic acid.
