Myo-inositol, also known as simply "inositol", is a natural chemical compound that belongs to the group of B vitamins. Formerly known as vitamin B8, it is now classified as a conditionally-essential nutrient (vitaminoid). One of the best-known functions of myo-inositol is its role as a building block for various important substances in cell membranes, and it is also involved in many metabolic processes.

In an endogenous process, myo-inositol is normally converted into D-chiro-inositol. The product already contains a small amount of D-chiro-inositol in addition.
