Omega-3 fatty acids

Omega-3 fatty acids belong to the polyunsaturated fatty acids. Unlike saturated fatty acids, the body cannot produce these fatty acids itself. They must therefore be supplied from the outside - i.e. through food. Since omega-3 fatty acids are vital for our organism, they are also called essential fatty acids. Linseed oil, walnuts, chia seeds & Co. are good sources of omega-3. However, they only contain the plant-based omega-3 fatty acid ALA, only 0.5-10% of which can be converted into the important marine omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. EPA and DHA are vital for our brain function, vision as well as our heart. Also during pregnancy EPA & DHA are essential for the well-being of the mother and the development of the baby.
