Berberine is a naturally occurring plant compound from the group of alkaloids. It is especially concentrated in the roots of the barberry plant (Berberis vulgaris). Barberry is a shrub native mainly to India, Pakistan and Bhutan, and is also widely cultivated in Europe as an ornamental plant. Berberine has been valued for centuries in Indian, Chinese and European herbal traditions. The extract used in NatuGena Berberin 500 is derived from carefully selected plants and gently processed to preserve its characteristic compounds.

What role does myo-inositol play in this combination?

Myo-inositol is a vitamin-like compound that was formerly known as “vitamin B8”, but is now classified as a so-called vitaminoid. It is the most prevalent form of inositol in the human body and is found in nearly all cells. Myo-inositol plays a structural role in cell membranes and is involved in important cellular signalling processes.

Why is piperine included?

Piperine is a secondary plant compound found in black pepper (Piper nigrum). NatuGena Berberin 500 uses a standardised extract under the brand name BioPerine®. Piperine is known to enhance the bioavailability of certain plant compounds and micronutrients.
