What is nervonic acid and where does it come from?

Nervonic acid is a rare monounsaturated fatty acid from the omega-9 family and is mainly found in the cell membranes of the brain and nervous system. Small amounts occur in certain plant oils such as peanut oil or macadamia nut oil. Historically, nervonic acid was extracted from bovine brain cerebrosides; today it can be obtained via modern extraction from plants such as Acer truncatum, providing a plant-based and sustainable alternative.

What makes Acer truncatum extract special?

The Chinese maple (Acer truncatum) grows in selected regions of Asia and its seeds provide a high-quality, natural source of nervonic acid. Our extract is carefully standardised to 90% nervonic acid.

Recommended intake

2 capsules once daily. It is best to take them with a high-fat meal with 250 ml of still, lukewarm water or, alternatively, with a teaspoon of omega-3 oil to increase bioavailability.
