PrämensPlus was developed in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Döll especially for use in premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

The term premenstrual syndrome is used to describe various symptoms that occur month after month before menstruation, including abdominal cramps, water retention, taut breasts, headaches, cravings for sweets, irritable mood and difficulty concentrating. Usually, the symptoms start a few days to two weeks before bleeding and get worse until it starts. Typically, the symptoms disappear with the onset of bleeding or one to two days afterwards.

Yarrow is a well-known herb from gynaecology, the medical name is Achillea. Yarrow contains azulene, flavones, eucalyptol, bitter substances and tannins, among others.

The product PrämensPlus contains 300mg of magnesium per daily dose. Studies confirm that magnesium in the organic-bound form as magnesium citrate is well bioavailable.

Women's mantle (Alchemilla vulgaris) belongs to the rose family and is very common in our latitudes. Lady's mantle contains an active substance that is similar to the human hormone progesterone. The hormone progesterone peaks in the second half of the menstrual cycle and builds up naturally after the release of the corpus luteum hormone.

A well-known medicinal plant for women's complaints is monk's pepper (Vitex agnus-castus), which is medically recognised for the treatment of irregular, too frequent or too infrequent menstruation. Monk's pepper contains substances similar to dopamine. In hormone metabolism, dopamine has the task of inhibiting the release of prolactin, which stimulates the release of the hormones FSH and LH.

Rhodiola Rosea (rose root) is considered an adaptogen in phytotherapy. Adaptogens are active plant substances that help the body adapt to internal and external stress. Rose root contains flavonoids, i.e. antioxidants that serve as radical scavengers to protect our cells from oxidative stress. The rose root belongs to the family of the thick-leaf plants and is a succulent plant that is found in arctic regions as well as in the mountainous regions of North America, Europe and Asia. The rose root gets its name because its underground, bulbous stem has a rose-like scent. RhodioLife® is a standardised extract and contains 1.5g of rosavin and 0.5g of salidrosides per 100mg of rose root extract.

The South African plant Griffonia simplicifolia (also African black bean) contains 5-HTP (hydroxytryptophan), which is converted into serotonin in our body. For use as a food supplement, the seeds from the pods of the African climbing plant are processed into powder. The happiness hormone serotonin is involved in many metabolic processes, such as sleep control through the formation of melatonin from serotonin.

Many women react to the drop in female sex hormones shortly before their period with mood swings. Less well known, and also unknown to many women, is that headaches can be related to the change in hormones.

There are oestrogen receptors throughout the nervous system, so it is thought that the sudden drop and lack of oestrogen just before the onset of the period leads to an increased increase in the transmission of pain signals. On other days, headaches may not be felt as strongly as they are just before and during the period.

Many women cannot pinpoint exactly when the headache occurs. It can be helpful to keep a diary in order to become aware of any regularities and to support the body with relaxation exercises and additional nutrients during certain phases.

If there is a lot of pressure in the head, the product AsperiaZen, which contains motherwort, can be combined with PrämensPlus without any problems.

Developed in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Michaela Döll.
