What exactly is L-carnitine?

L-carnitine is a compound naturally produced in the body from the amino acids lysine and methionine. It is found primarily in tissues with high-energy demands – such as the muscles, heart, and brain. It plays a key role in energy metabolism by transporting fatty acids into the mitochondria, where they are converted into energy. The human body contains approximately 20–35 g of L-carnitine, and small amounts can be synthesised internally if the necessary building blocks and cofactors such as vitamin C, B3, B6, and iron are available.

What role does magnesium play in this formula?
