Boron is a bioactive food component and makes a significant contribution to health as a trace element. Already in the times of our grandparents it was valued as a remedy and could be found in every household. Boron is most abundant in the form of boric acid in our bones, fingernails, hair as well as teeth and its functions are manifold. Among other things, we therefore need boron for a healthy and functioning calcium, magnesium, phosphate and vitamin D balance. It plays a role in metabolic processes and in the construction of cell walls. For plants, it is an essential nutrient with important functions for the growth and development of the plant.

In our foods, boron is only contained in a sufficient concentration in a few products. Dried sultanas, plums, peaches, avocados and nuts are considered particularly rich in boron, while dairy products as well as fish and meat provide only small amounts. The boron content of foods varies greatly from country to country, which means that boron intake can be very low depending on individual dietary habits. People with a vegetarian diet therefore supply their bodies with more boron than people with a meat-heavy diet.
