Glutathion 500

Glutathione 500 consists of 100 % reduced glutathione. Glutathione (GSH) is a water-soluble tripeptide of three amino acids: glycine, cysteine and glutamic acid. It is the most abundant intracellular low molecular weight peptide with a thiol group. Glutathione is found in all tissues of mammals and is particularly highly concentrated in the liver.

Our bodies need a balance of nutrients to stay healthy. Glutathione (GSH) is a ubiquitous intracellular peptide and is essential for the proper functioning of every cell type. The role of endogenous glutathione (GSH) as the "master antioxidant", is well known. In addition to antioxidant defence, glutathione exerts various functions, including detoxification, maintenance of thiol status and modulation of cell proliferation.

Because glutathione is an endogenous substance, it is not considered an essential nutrient and therefore does not necessarily need to be consumed in the diet.  Nevertheless, glutathione is also present in food, although it is unclear to what extent this glutathione content can actually also contribute to increasing the body's own glutathione level. The top-ranked plant foods are asparagus with 28 mg GSH content/100g and avocados with 27.7 mg GSH/100g.
